The English Bulldog as it is known is descended from the Asiatic Mastiff, and was developed in Great Britain.
The Bulldog's height is about 12-16 inches and weight is about 40-55 lbs. It has a broad head with folds on its skull and forehead. The Bulldog has a short muzzle with the upper lip pendant and the lower jaw undershot. The ears are small, thin and folded back in a shape like a rose. Colors are fawn, brindle, pale yellow or red, white or any combination of these colors. Its coat if smooth, fine and short. It's a good idea to use a damp cloth to wipe its face wrinkles daily.
Looks can be deceiving - the Bulldog is gentle, courageous and loves lots of attention. The Bulldog needs a strong leader to control any dominance tendencies. It's good with children.
The Bulldog is a great guard dog, has been used by the police force and the army. It likes apartment living and is best kept indoors. It doesn't do well in very cold or very hot weather. Weight-watching is important and the Bulldog should be taken for daily walks, even short ones. The Bulldog makes a wonderful companion.
