Husky

The Siberian Husky's origins are in eastern Siberia. Its ancestors come from the extremely cold Siberian Arctic where severe weather conditions exist. It was brought to Alaska during the time of the gold rush and then spread to the mainland U.S. and Canada.

The Siberian Husky has the most wolf-like appearance of any other dogs. Height is 20-24 inches and weight 35-60 lbs. depending on gender. Eyes are almond shaped and blue or brown, sometimes one brown and one blue. Ears are triangular and erect. The tail is brush-like and curled over the back. Undercoat is thick and wooly and top coat is soft. This dense coat allows the Husky to withstand very low temperatures. Coat colors are all colors with varied markings.

The Siberian Husky is a calm and gentle dog with people. It is loving and docile, good with children and strangers alike. It does not make a good guard dog. The Husky has a strong hunting drive and will answer that call rather than pay attention to its human so a lead when walking the dog is advisable. The Husky rarely barks but does howl. Huskies have high energy and need lots of exercise. The Husky is also a digger and it might be a good idea to give this dog a separate area in the yard where it can fulfill the need to dig.

Siberian Huskys have an unbelievable amount of stamina and are excellent sled dogs. They make wonderful loving companions.
